Assistant Project Manager

General Description

The Construction Assistant Project Manager will aid the Project Manager and be partially responsible for managing multiple projects ranging in contract value and job classifications. Typically, the project manager and assistant project manager will share managing the project budget, writing contracts, approving invoices and updating the project schedule. The assistant project manager will also coordinate subcontractors and help to resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the job, bringing them to the project manager’s attention. In some cases the assistant project manager may manage the project independently, while the project manager assists with major issues or complications.

 

Work Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-      Provide technical information to company employees and subcontractors to ensure project complies with all construction standards, codes, specifications and design instructions.

-      Assist in evaluation and solution of potential field problems, referring them to PM.

-      Assist in plan and spec analysis in order to provide clear, trackable and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction.

-      Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors/omissions.

-      Participate in the continuous updating and accurate generation of as-built documents, assist with the research and preparation of field change requests to resolve design issues.

-      Conduct quality control activities in accordance with instructions, inspection programs, using specified control measuring and testing equipment.

-      Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with on-site policy and procedures, including tracking & creating of RFIs, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements, and maintain project expediting list through Alares’ online system.

-      Attend project coordination and owner/contractor/architect/engineer meetings as required.

-      Create and maintain meeting minutes

-      Assist with bidding solicitations

-      Procure material for the jobsites, vetting vendors, researching and purchasing materials in the most cost efficient way possible

-      Maintain accurate P.O.s in Alares’ online system to track all job-related expenses

-      Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as assumed or requested by supervision

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction

personnel hoist, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include

close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle,

or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of

this position, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these environments is normally moderate to very loud, use of company provided personal protective equipment for all known and potential hazards is mandatory. Frequent lifting of equipment between 10-50 lbs. required.

Education Requirements

-      Bachelor's Degree in construction management, engineering or related discipline.

-      Five (5) years related construction experience in lieu of a degree.
