Air Handler Replacement
VA Medical Center – West Roxbury, MA

Alares Construction Inc. removed and replaced two aging air handler units that served a critical function in maintaining constant air circulation and filtration to laboratory testing facilities. Alares Construction Inc. was able to design and implement a phasing scenario through the use of temporary air handlers that would eliminate the need to shut the laboratory down during installation; saving the VA thousands of dollars in outsourced testing. In addition to the AHUs, Alares Construction Inc. installed a 15 ton chiller to provide redundancy in the cooling system in the event of an outage at the main plant. All equipment was moved from primary power to emergency power, and new electrical feeds were run from the generator to the mechanical space. Alares Construction Inc. also coordinated rigging of the new machinery into the third floor of an active hospital.
